Hot Water Installation & Replacement
Like-for-like replacements, fuel-type changeovers and brand-new installations, supplied, installed and certified by licensed local plumbers, usually on the same day.
How quickly can a hot water system be replaced?
Most standard replacements are done the same day you call. A straightforward like-for-like swap (same fuel type, same location) typically takes 2–4 hours on site, including removing the old unit, installing the new system with compliant valves, and commissioning it. Changing system type or location takes longer.

Installation & Replacement
Hot water installation done properly, the first time
Ready Plumbing supplies and installs every type of hot water system across the Northern Beaches and North Shore: gas storage, gas instantaneous, electric storage, electric instantaneous, heat pump, solar, stainless steel tanks and commercial systems. Owner-operated and local for 20 years, we install the brands we trust (Rinnai, Rheem, Everhot, Thermann and other leading manufacturers) and back every job with a lifetime labour guarantee.
A proper installation is more than connecting a tank. Every compliant hot water install includes the right tempering valve (which keeps delivered water at a safe temperature), pressure and relief valves, and correct drainage for the relief line. Cutting corners here is what turns into leaks, lukewarm water and failed inspections later.
Installation Day
What happens on installation day
Confirm the system and quote
We check the location, connections and any compliance updates needed, and confirm the fixed price.
Drain and remove the old unit
We take it away and dispose of it, so you don't need to do anything.
Install and connect
New system in place, valves replaced (not reused), connections made to water, gas or power as required.
Commission and certify
We fire it up, set the tempering valve, test for leaks, and complete compliance certification.
Walk-through
We show you how it works, what maintenance it needs, and when, such as the 5-yearly anode replacement on steel tanks.
Choosing What To Install
Choosing what to install
- Like-for-like replacement: cheapest and fastest. Right when your current system suited your household.
- Upsize: if you regularly run out of hot water, replacement day is the time to fix it. See what size hot water system you need.
- Change system type: switching to instantaneous frees up space and ends “running out”; switching to a heat pump cuts running costs substantially, with rebates available. Our gas vs heat pump comparison covers the trade-offs.
- Stainless steel tanks: if you’re staying with storage, stainless tanks resist corrosion and don’t depend on the anode replacement that glass-lined steel tanks do. We recommend them often for local homes.

FAQ
Hot Water Installation: your questions answered
Plumbing problems can be extremely frustrating. Our licensed Sydney plumbers are here to provide fast, reliable answers and solutions.
Do you supply the hot water system or do I buy it myself?
Either works, but we recommend letting us supply it. We install trusted brands like Rinnai, Rheem, Everhot and Thermann at trade pricing, we know which models hold up, and the whole job (unit + installation + labour guarantee) sits with one company.
Can I switch from electric storage to gas or a heat pump?
Usually, yes. Switching fuel type involves extra work, such as gas line sizing for continuous flow, or a power circuit and airflow space for a heat pump, and we'll quote it up-front. Heat pump changeovers can attract government rebates that offset much of the difference.
What's included in your installation price?
Removal and disposal of the old unit, the new system, all required valves (tempering, pressure limiting, duo valves as applicable), connection, testing, and certification of the work. We quote the full job before we start.
Where can a hot water system be installed?
Storage tanks need a stable base with drainage nearby; instantaneous units mount on an external wall (or internally with flueing); heat pumps need airflow around the fan unit. If your current spot isn't compliant, we'll tell you what is, since regulations around relief drains and tempering valves have tightened over the years.
Do you install commercial hot water systems?
Yes, from multi-level buildings and salons to backpackers and large multi-bank installations, plus reticulated hot water systems. We design the system around your peak demand.
