Bathroom Renovation Rough-In for a Repeat Client in Allambie Heights
Rough-in is the one stage of a renovation you don't get to go back and fix. Here's how we set out the pipework and drainage for a repeat client's bathroom renovation before the walls closed over it.

The situation
An existing client got in touch about his bathroom renovation in Allambie Heights. He’d already had good experience with us on previous jobs, so rather than shopping around he called us directly to handle the plumbing.
We came out first to look at what he was doing with the renovation, talked through what he wanted, and gave him our advice on the best way to handle the water and drainage side of it. From there we put together a quote, he accepted it, and we booked the work in.
What we found
By the time we arrived to do the rough-in, the bathroom already had the toilet, vanity and shower set out, and he’d bought his own fixtures. That meant the pipework had to land in exactly the right spots to match those fixtures, not just a generic layout. Down at floor level, two things needed doing: a new floor waste for the shower, and a drain connection for the new vanity.
The fix
We ran the hot and cold water through the wall framing to match the exact positions of the toilet, vanity and shower he’d bought, so the tapware would line up correctly when it’s fitted off later. Below the floor, we installed the new floor waste and tied the vanity’s drain into the existing plumbing.

Rough-in only gets one shot. Every pipe and mixer body has to be in the right place before the plasterer sheets the walls, because once that happens, the only way back in is to cut the wall open again. Before any of it gets covered up, we test the whole system to make sure every joint is sound and there isn’t a leak anywhere. We also think about what happens after us: the pipework is run and fixed so the tilers and wall-sheeters that follow can work over it without putting a screw through a line they can’t see.
The outcome
The client was happy with how neat and well-positioned the rough-in was. He specifically pointed out that having the pipework run properly meant the trades coming in behind us wouldn’t risk hitting a pipe while sheeting and fixing the walls. His renovation is now moving on to its next stage with the plumbing rough-in signed off and ready to be built over.
